Join our team at Riksgymnasiet, a specialized upper secondary school for the deaf and hard of hearing! We work to provide students with the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop during an important time in their lives.

About the Position

In Örebro, Riksgymnasiet offers a specialized upper secondary school for the deaf and hard of hearing. During their four years of high school, students live in one of our five residences. A key task is to create security in the student's living and leisure situation. This includes support as needed and activities that develop the individual student as well as the entire student group. You will have varied workdays focusing on helping students achieve a rich and independent life that naturally allows for a good schooling experience. We collaborate with relatives and schools.

As a residential support worker, you support students in their daily lives and work in various ways to help them develop as rich and independent lives as possible. You plan and implement activities as well as cook meals and perform service tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping. Digital communication is used daily. Students go home every other weekend and during holidays, and you will be there as support during their travels. Therefore, travel is also included in the position.

Examples of Job Duties:

  • plan, implement, and follow up on the operations
  • establish and follow up on individual plans for students
  • support students in daily life based on needs and approved interventions, and be present as support during students' travels
  • adapt operations based on the individual student and the group
  • perform service tasks such as cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, etc.
  • carry out delegated tasks such as medical, rehabilitative, and habilitative interventions as well as medication management
  • collaborate with relatives and schools

About the Workplace

In Örebro, you will find Sweden's only specialized upper secondary school for the deaf and hard of hearing. At the adapted upper secondary school's student housing, you will be part of a team of about 35 people. Each student residence has 5-7 staff members, including a team leader who guides the work. The number of students living in each residence may vary but is around 5-10. The residence is staffed during the times when students are not in school, that is, morning, afternoon, evening, night, and every other weekend.

At the student residence, each student, based on their own conditions and interests, is given the opportunity to live as independently and richly as possible in both youth and adult life. Each student has their own room and shares common areas with other students and staff.

The adapted upper secondary school is part of the Gymnasie- och arbetsmarknadsförvaltningen. Here, 1400 employees work in a variety of roles to provide youth and adults in Örebro with the same opportunities for education and self-sufficiency. Within the administration, there is expertise in many different areas and operations, which means that you as an employee have great opportunities for professional development in a creative and varied environment.

Qualifications

To be a suitable residential support worker with us, we want you to be a stable and secure person, with a positive view of humanity and great respect for each individual's needs, as well as the ability to meet students in a professional manner by being calm, attentive, and accommodating in your interactions. You have an interest, a willingness, and the ability to help others, and you strive to deliver solutions. You collaborate well with others and relate to them in a responsive and flexible manner. Furthermore, good computer skills and digital competence are required as the work involves digital documentation and communication.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements:

  • relevant upper secondary education, with a focus on children and leisure, or other education/experience deemed equivalent by the employer
  • driving license B, manual transmission
  • you must be able to communicate well in Swedish, both orally and in writing, with youth, staff, and relatives who do not yet master sign language
  • sign language competence

Meritorious:

  • experience working with students/youth with special needs
  • experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • experience working with clear pedagogical approaches, low-arousal responses, or similar
  • minibus training
  • tactile sign language and experience working with deafblind students

Scope and Start Date

Employment type: temporary position, August 13 to June 5, 2026

Employment rate: 90%

Start date: August 13 or as agreed

Number of positions: 1

Working hours: day, evening, and weekend
